No mat eliminates 100% of tracking — and any that claims otherwise isn't being honest. Most customers report around 90–95% less tracking. That's usually enough to stop daily sweeping entirely. Not perfection. Lasting, noticeable relief.

Most cats take to it immediately. The soft EVA foam is gentle underfoot and the mat is free from strong chemical odors — the main reason cats avoid other mats. If your cat is hesitant at first, place it next to her existing mat for a day or two before swapping. Place the mat directly against the litter box exit on day one for best results. Most cats adapt within 24–48 hours.

For dry litter: lift the top layer and pour the trapped litter back into the box. Shake out or vacuum lightly if needed. About 30 seconds. For wet mess: rinse promptly with water. The waterproof base means nothing soaks through to your floors. Do not machine wash — rinse with warm water and allow to dry flat.

The textured non-slip backing keeps the mat stable on hard floors — tiles, hardwood, laminate, and vinyl. It won't shift when your cat steps on or off. Note: the mat is designed for hard floors and may shift slightly on carpet.

When in doubt, go larger. Large (21.5" × 29.5") is right for most homes and is our most popular size. If you have more than one cat, a heavy kicker, or a wide exit area from the box — choose X-Large for full containment. The most common reason a mat underperforms is being too small.

Position the mat so it covers the entire exit area of the litter box — the mat edge should be flush against the box or as close as possible. The moment your cat steps out she should land directly on the mat. If there is a gap between the box and the mat edge, litter will fall in that gap and miss the mat entirely. For the best results with an open litter box, the Large or X-Large size placed flush against the box opening gives maximum coverage.

One mat makes a real difference. Two or three create a complete containment system — one at the box, one along the exit path, one for a second box. That's the setup most customers end up with once they see how well it works.

The X-Large size (23.5" × 35.5") was designed with exactly this in mind. The wider coverage area catches litter even when a cat kicks aggressively sideways. Several customers with heavy-tracking breeds specifically recommend the X-Large.

The Litter Mat works with standard clumping, crystal, and pellet litters. For ultra-fine powder litters — where granules are smaller than approximately 2mm — some litter may pass through the honeycomb cells to the floor beneath rather than being trapped in the lower layer. If you use a very fine litter, positioning the mat flush against the box and choosing the Large or X-Large size will give the best results.

No — do not machine wash. For dry litter: lift the top layer, shake it out or vacuum lightly, and pour any collected litter back into the box. For wet mess or a deeper clean: rinse with warm water and allow to dry flat before replacing. The mat dries quickly and the waterproof base means it will not retain moisture.

The top layer is soft EVA foam with large honeycomb openings. The base layer is a waterproof PVC backing. Both are free from BPA and harmful chemicals. With normal daily use most customers find the mat maintains its shape and effectiveness for 12–18 months before considering replacement.

Both colors perform identically — this is purely a personal preference. Nickel Gray blends naturally with lighter floors and lighter colored litter boxes. Black suits darker floor tones or areas where you want the mat to be less visible. If you are unsure, Nickel Gray is our most popular choice.
